Konkan Lunch Buffet at Saffron Valley Sunday July 22nd, 2012:

Konkan food is one of my absolute favorite cuisines. Is is the intermingling of arabian, portuguese and native Maharashtrian cultures which gives this cuisine a unique blend of richness and simplicity.

Fresh coconut is used extensively either grated, ground into a fine paste or in the form of milk, extracted from the flesh of the fresh coconut. Peanuts and sesame seeds also give Konkan food a rich and creamy texture.

For most Konkan dishes, red dried chillies are used along with a variety of spices including chilli powder, coriander and cumin. Kokum and raw mango are used as souring agents along with tamarind and lime.

More than I can explain in words, Konkan food has to be tried to get to know the flavors and textures that make this a coveted cuisine.

So, come on over to Saffron Valley only this Sunday to experience the delicious taste of Konkan food.
