COCANADA: A Culinary Journey through the Towns and Villages of Southern India
Fancy eating a giant crispy dosa dipped in piping hot spicy sambhar? How about some Valapoo Vada (fritters made with banana flower)? Saffron Valley is bringing South Indian food to Salt Lake City through their third annual South Indian Food Festival, the most authentic and flavorful food festival this summer. ‘Cocanada’, named after a town in Andhra Pradesh, represents delicacies from the four Southern States of India- Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
The event is from Sept 9th – 15th at the South Jordan location located at 1098 W South Jordan Pkwy, followed by Salt Lake City location at 26 E Street, from Sept 16th- 22nd. Hours of operation are 11AM-3PM and 5PM-10PM seven days a week.
Designed by Saffron Valley’s executive chef Kannan and owner Lavanya Mahate the festival will feature an extensive array of signature delicacies in an A la Carte menu. Patrons have a choice of choosing from the equally elaborate Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian dishes that start from an attractive price of $6 upwards.
From kothu parotta and pal payasam to lamb karaikudi and Hyderabadi dum biryani; from valapoo vada and masala bonda to chepala pulusu and Fish 65, you name it, and we’ll have it served up, piping hot and fresh. Other specialties will include Mutton Soup (coriander flavored goat meat soup), Madurai Meen Kholumbu (specialty fish curry), Andhra Chicken (delicious chicken gravy seasoned with curry leaves ) and dry Karuvepillai Ira (pepper fried prawns) and a choice of vegetarian dishes like Ennai Katrika (baby eggplants sautéed and cooked in a tamarind sauce), Avial (mixed vegetable and plantain curry) and Valakka Bajji (fritters of raw plantain) to go with a variety of rice dishes in addition to some very luscious desserts.
The South Indian Food Festival is a great opportunity to showcase the range and diversity of cuisines that India can offer and our patrons will get to see a new facet of the South Indian Cuisine during the 2 week long fest. The festival promises some known and not-so-well-known dishes as well. So book yourself for this once in a year opportunity!
