The rainy weather outside brought back memories of the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India which has a plethora of beaches. The coastline is dotted with palm groves that shade the white sand of beaches, mango trees planted in perfect sequence in the agricultural fields, imposing temples and the tiled homes that stand high in the beauty of lush green pastures, and rustic life of the deep countryside. As a student at the Symbiosis School of Mass Communication, I had many opportunities to visit this
beautiful region and experience their cuisine where I learnt how to make the following dish.
My spice blend Malvani Masala is drawn from this region of Malvan/Konkan
Konkan Crab Curry
Crabs 4, cleaned and cut into halves
Onions 3/4 cup
Tomatoes 2 medium, chopped
Coconut milk 1/2 cu
East India Pantry Malvani Masala- 3 tsps
Tamarind 1/2 tsp
Oil 2 tsps
Heat oil and fry onion till translucent. Add tomatoes and fry for another five minutes. Add EIP Malvani Masala, salt and cook for 2-3 min. Now add the crabs, half a cup of water and cook for around 12-15min. Mix coconut milk, tamarind pulp and simmer for five minutes.
Serve hot with rice.
