Regional Special Lunch Buffet featuring Punjabi Cuisine
Punjabi cuisine (from the Punjab region of Northern India) is famous world-wide for being aromatic, rich and mouth-wateringly delicious. In fact, a majority of the Indian restaurants outside of India are influenced by this particular type of cuisine. There’re few who haven’t heard of Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala…
Punjabi cuisine mainly comprises of items made with whole wheat, masalas (spice blends), desi ghee (clarified butter), with liberal amounts of butter and cream. Wheat is the staple food of Punjabis, but they do cook rice on special occasions. Creamy Kheer (rice pudding) made with basmati rice, whole milk, sugar, pistachios, raisins, and cardamom is a popular dessert from this region.
Punjabis love tandoori cooked meats and flat breads called paranthas. These flatbreads can be plain, stuffed or layered, but one thing that they do have in common is that they are all made with ground whole wheat and slathered with ghee.
A few signature dishes from this region include Ma Ki Dal (simmered black lentils), Saag Panir (spinach and cottage cheese), Aloo Parathas (potato stuffed flat bread), Sweet/Salt Lassi (yogurt smoothie).
Delicious Punjabi fare has wowed people all over the world. Now you can indulge in authentic, Punjabi meal without leaving Salt Lake City right here at Saffron Valley.
